From the Principal’s Desk
Thank you Kloefkorn PTO for providing dinner for our staff both nights of parent/teacher conferences. We are so appreciative! And, thank you parents for actively participating in our first ever zoom parent/teacher conferences!
The cooler weather is finally starting to arrive and as you know, we are in store for many more chilly winter days. We will make every attempt to take children outside for recess throughout the winter. Fresh air and exercise fuel their bodies for learning throughout the school day. If it is raining or bitterly cold we have a variety of options for indoor recess.
Please make sure your child has a warm coat, hat and gloves/mittens. We appreciate names in coats, hats and boots. Also, younger children will benefit from practicing zipping, buttoning and snapping.
In the event school closes due to weather, families will receive a phone call from the district office between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. We know this is very early, but this allows working parents a little more time to make arrangements for childcare for the day. Also, you can log onto the LPS website: www.lps.org for school closures and of course, the local television and radio stations will carry the latest announcements.

During these days of increased opportunities for remote learning, it’s important to recognize that not all screen time is the same. There is a significant difference between “active” screen time (engaging in focused production of content) and “passive” screen time (consuming entertainment media). The American Academy Of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends families have thoughtful conversations around the purposes for using digital media and offers an online tool for creating a “personalized family media use plan.” https://lps.org/go/y8ov.

Synergy ParentVUE is increasingly becoming your “one-stop shop” for information about your student’s teachers and classes. In addition to providing parents/guardians secure access to student grades (secondary), assignments, attendance, and class information.
ParentVUE is also the avenue for parents/guardians to verify student enrollment in LPS. New this year, secondary parents can pay fees via ParentVUE.
The District’s goal is to ensure at least one parent/guardian per household has activated their ParentVUE account. If you haven’t yet activated yours, please contact our school office for an activation key.

Q: If my student will be brand new to LPS for the 2021-2022 school year, can I turn in a transfer
A: Transfer requests may be turned in for students who are residents of Lincoln, NE and have never attended LPS prior to the 2021-2022 school year. However, online enrollment must be completed for the 2021-2022 school year before transfer requests can be processed. Typically, this begins in January. Please watch for announcements by mail or email in December for the date that 2021-2022 online enrollment will be active.
Q: How/when will I know if my request has been approved or denied?
A: Student Services will begin processing transfer requests received by the January 5th deadline @ the beginning of February. Families will be notified of approvals and denials by email notification. Notifications typically go out beginning mid-February-beginning of March. Please make sure email addresses on file at the school are current. If there is not a valid email address on file at the school, letters will be sent by US Mail. Families are encouraged to open an email account if they do not have one.
Q: Will my transfer request be accepted if I missed the deadline?
A: Transfer requests will be accepted after the deadline. However, transfer requests received by the January 5th, 2021 deadline will be processed first.

During the week of December 7, we will be collecting food donations for our sister school Riley Elementary. We will send home a paper bag with a list of items to donate on Friday, December 4. Please consider filling this bag with any/all of the items on the list and have your child return the bag to school December 7-11.
